If you are caring for an elderly loved one, you know the astronomical costs involved. I see on a daily basis how these costs impact families, and I am trying to do something about it.
On Wednesday I met with State Senator Frank Wagner of Virginia Beach to discuss making adjustments to current Department of Social Services’ licensing for community care homes to help provide larger community homes at affordable prices.
This will help reduce costs for families, which in turn will reduce the amount of people filing for Medicaid enrollment, which is the second largest expense for Virginia (with Education being first).
Sen. Wagner was EXTREMELY receptive and I am now gathering data for a Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC) meeting in September. JLARC conducts policy analysis, program evaluation, and oversight of state agencies on behalf of the Virginia General Assembly.
